Flamenco music, the passion of acoustic guitar-playing deriving from the poor districts of Andalucian region, influenced by Middle-Eastern music in general, has always been close to Aki's heart. Aki is a self-learnt musician also in flamenco where he is combining different playing styles of well-known flamenco guitarists, as well as trying to introduce a modern "world music" -approach into his playing and compositions.

This electro-acoustic song, even though it has some flamenco influences, as all Andalucian Dreams songs do, is at the same time combining fusion jazz and folk tunes. This piece might remind of recordings by Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin, especially those in the 1970s, and they both are my all time favorites when it comes to guitar playing...

Sometimes the procedure of composing a new song comes easy. I was tuning up my guitar after changing all strings, just jamming myself, this time without the pic...and there it was: a song that remainded me about a "Lullaby" for a little child...Some parts may also remind the great Spanish guitarist and composer, Andreas Segovia (RIP) who was the main influence for this piece.
Only 1 guitar track here, and a track containing some bird singing recorded in 2007 in Istanbul, Turkey.

Aki: acoustic guitar

This very beautiful song is perhaps closer to jazz than flamenco. The piano was originally recorded as a movie soundtrack for a Turkish alternative movie called "Hands". I added guitars and other instruments in October 2008.
Listen to my friend Friedrich's huge talent of playing a real Steinway piano. I'm humble in front of his skills.
Composed by Friedrich Zur Heide 2007.
Recorded by Aki Virtanen at Albert Long Hall, Istanbul 2007 and at Soul Corner Studios, Istanbul October 2008.
Mixed by Aki Virtanen October 2008.

Hasta La Muerte (Until the End) has been in my mind for some half a year as unorganised pieces of melodies, and only now I had time to play and record it.
The song is again a combination of flamenco, jazz and rock tunes. Goes without saying that to play such songs one needs to be "in the mood", since it's the emotions that allow one present these type of melodies and improvisation to the best one can. In the end it was easy indeed, although I had to rehearse many hours to be able to catch the technique.

Back to the basics...here we have a bare flamenco type of a take. Pure feelings and improvisation...Three accords and transponation in the middle of the song. I tried to create something rhythmic this time and I'm slamming the body of my guitar to do that.
