Dying Out Loud: Restless waters

something i left in the river,
something i dropped in the lake
something i buried into the ground,
something you could not take

you keep digging further,
though you know what you'll find
some things inside me,
to what i've made myself blind

something that my heart felt,
was turned to stone
carved to a perfect form,
like the smile on your face

i thought i saw a light,
a glimmer of hope
you waved your hand in the night,
across the shore

but my fire is fading,
my boat is flowing down
the river will take me,
to a place i'm going alone

my reflection on the surface,
distorted by the stream
I need to find some stiller waters,
before i fall off and drown

fire is dead and last burning embers,
fade to black on the nightsky
cinders fall through my fingers,
and paint the water with shades of grey

something i left in the river,
something i dropped in the lake
something i buried into the ground,
something you could not take
