Dying Out Loud: Unforeseen

Unforeseen

there you are,
lying on the ground
sleeping quietly,
on a pile of broken glass and blood

i never saw it come,
on the dark and icy road
i tried to brake and steer,
as far as i can remember

there is a fog too dense,
for us to see the past,
and learn from the things we have done

there is a light too bright,
to behold tomorrow,
and ready ourselves for what´s to come

the things I gave to you,
were like flowers on a grave
meant for you,
but ultimately just for myself

now it is too late,
to speak to you again
evermore will i carry with me,
this everlasting moment of pain

there is a fog too dense,
for us to see the past,
and learn from the things we have done

there is a light too bright,
to behold tomorrow,
and ready ourselves for what will be, unforeseen

traces of blood on asphalt,
mixing with molten ice,
creating a scarlet stream,
flowing from birth to death

the sand in the hourglass,
is running low
the fire in the lantern,
is getting dim
