Pinetree: Clear and Cloudless Darkness

Upon the air still lay, irresistible
the quiet hush of an early morning.
I tried in vain to catch back sleep again.

Distant shred of dream floating in my mind,
like a cloud at evening.
I rarely dreamed but this time
there was something that was running away from me.

I sat up and looked at the cinders glowing
heat still flowing from the fireplace.
I got out of bed and looked through the blinds.

Apple trees in the garden and high above
I could clearly see the morning star
hanging in the dusk of night
the grey of dawn already rising.

And the street beneath its autumn leaves
in the clear and cloudless darkness
clear and cloudless darkness
oh-oh-oh

What has life done with me
why is my reality so clouded
I gently opened the door
and quietly walked upstairs.
At a long narrow landing window
stopped to stare at the starry garden
And beyond the fields and the hills
in the clear and cloudless darkness.
