When The Leaves Fall

The newest single When the Leaves Fall paints a picture of those moments when we see a loved one suffering but are unable to influence the situation. Hoping for improvement or the awareness of possible solutions makes the situation even harder to bear.

“These are the most tangible and intimate lyrics I have ever written. The text came about few years ago during a rough time in my life, but the story was only put to music with Kissa’s composition”, Nippi says about the creative process of the song.

“We were searching for a mood that hits you with the darkness of fall as the leaves fall from trees and rain beats down on the ground”, Kissa describes.

“While writing this song it was as if something was leading the words and music together. Kissa had come home from work one day and just picked up his guitar. The song came out whole in that moment, and he even named it with the same title I had for the lyrics. Kind of creepy, when I think about it now”, Nippi describes the song coming together.

Music-wise the song visits influential fountainheads of Tool and Steven Wilson but wraps it in Sonqo’s swathe. The hypnotic guitar riff clears the way for Nippi’s unapologetic voice. The chorus is like a hand gripping the back of the listener’s neck and wiping the floor with their hair.

The final chorus paints a scenery filled with the scent of decomposing leaves, which is washed clean with the autumnal rain. Everything that comes must also go, and underneath pain there is a new, pure surface.
